Grant funding for local government councils
The NSW Local Government Grants Commission makes recommendations on the allocation of Commonwealth funded financial assistance grants to local councils under the provisions of the Local Government (Financial Assistance) Act 1995 (Cwlth). These are untied general purpose grants with each council having the responsibility to determine how the funds are to be spent according to their own local priorities. The aim of the funding is to provide greater financial assistance to those councils that are assessed as being relatively more disadvantaged compared with others.Grant funding for other organisations
While the NSW Government provides grant funding to local councils in the form of financial assistance grants, unfortunately there are no other discretionary funds available within the Local Government portfolio. Resources available that may assist organisations in accessing funding programs and grants are the Community Builders NSW website www.communitybuilders.nsw.gov.au and the Grants Link website www.grantslink.gov.au. These websites provide information about State and Federal Grants that are available and how to apply for them.Last Updated Friday, 9 April 2010
